She is 24 years old and has worked in social care for over seven years, joining Cornerstone in October 2023. Nikitta is currently undertaking the Modern Apprenticeship Programme and doing an SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 7. We put some questions to Nikitta to get her views on her Modern Apprenticeship and how it has helped her to develop her meta-skills. What sort of meta-skills have you learnt as part of your Modern Apprenticeship? I’ve been able to use many skills such as using my own initiative and being able to be adaptable with the new skills I’m learning. Being able to learn how to write and learn about my role within Cornerstone and many more. How has doing a Modern Apprenticeship helped you in your day to day job? It has helped me in many ways as It’s made me look at my role differently and it’s helped me realise how important team working is and how the work that we do helps improve quality of life of the people we support. "Nikitta is a very empathetic, professional and reliable individual who has demonstrate her competence well within her role throughout the modern apprenticeship. Nikitta has gathered a lot of experience and knowledge through various roles and courses and has demonstrated well that she applies her learning into practice. Nikita is gaining confidence from her apprenticeship allowing her to use her initiative more. As Nikitta’s assessor I have really enjoyed watching her confidence develop and apply her knowledge within her role to benefit the individual she support and her team and her manager who all value and appreciate her." Which part of doing a Modern Apprenticeship has been the most interesting? What have you really enjoyed? The part that’s been most interesting is learning all the correct terminology and new facts that I didn’t know loads about such as policies, codes and regulations as well as legislation. I’ve really enjoyed doing my face to face days in the office with my assessor as this really helps me understand more clearly about what I’m writing and the advice I get. What has been the most surprising thing about doing a Modern Apprenticeship? Before starting my apprenticeship I was worried that it was going to be really difficult and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do it. What’s surprised me the most was how helpful my assessor has been and how well broken down each new assessment is. What would you say to someone thinking of doing a Modern Apprenticeship? I would say it’s not as bad as you think it might be! Don’t do what I did all those years back and put it off and off, just because of the fear and worry of failing. Think of the benefits it will give you in the future, and how it will help you understand your role. It will help you out in your work so much. Definitely do it! Manage Cookie Preferences
