We were delighted to learn recently that our Cornerstone Shared Lives service had been successful in the Glasgow Shared Lives tender and are the first and only provider on the framework.  The new contract started in the middle of September 2025, and we welcome the opportunity to continue to develop this model of care across Glasgow and to recruiting new carers to the team!

Cornerstone’s Shared Lives and Short Breaks service provides both short breaks and long-term arrangements to people aged from 16 years old who require care and support due to a disability, health condition or support need. Shared Lives carers and their families provide support and accommodation in their own homes.

If you would be interested in finding out more about becoming a Shared Lives carer please get in touch at [email protected] or call 0300 131 3333 and you could help people like Joanne.

Having the right support at the right time can make all the difference!

Joanne is just one of the people supported by our Shared Lives service.

Following a successful matching process, Joanne moved in with her Shared Lives carer Lyn on a full-time basis in 2024.  This arrangement has gone from strength to strength; Joanne’s confidence, self-esteem, and independence, and have increased so much that she’s been able to learn and do more tasks at home and be involved in her community.  Joanne has maintained contact with her family, has a volunteering role and attends various groups and activities.

Her goal was to go on a holiday abroad; her carer supported her to apply for a passport and be involved throughout the holiday planning and booking process.  In April 2025, Joanne enjoyed a fun filled sunny two-week holiday in Turkey with her carer Lyn, she had the best time trying and doing so many new experiences.

Joanne is now living her life to the fullest, learning and developing on skills and experiencing opportunities, while being a part of a family and fully involved in her community – Shared Lives is Changing Lives!

I love staying with Lyn and walking the dog.  I loved my holiday to Turkey, and I can't wait for the next one!

Joanne

Could you or someone you know be a Shared Lives carer?

Our Shared Lives service is growing across Scotland including North, South and East Ayrshire, Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, North and South Lanarkshire, Dundee and the Scottish Borders. We’re currently seeking for more carers who can join our service who can provide full-time, short break or day support care to individuals with learning disabilities or other support needs.  Carers provide the care and support in their own homes requiring a spare bedroom available, following an assessment and approval at panel. Carers receive a generous fee and contributions to cover the board and utilities.
