Colleague of the Year Operations South - Helen Millan Congratulations to our 2024 Star Award Colleague of the Year Operations South winner Helen Millan (Support Practitioner) from our Scottish Borders Branch. Helen joined Cornerstone’s Tweedbank service in the Scottish Borders in 2021 taking on her first role in social care. She quickly developed a strong relationship with everyone she supports and her colleagues. Helen is always calm and caring. Many of the people we support see her as a guiding spirit who has an uncanny ability to move things forward in a positive way. She recognises that the people we support have the right to make choices that we might not always agree with, but will gently guide them to understand what a better alternative might be, without imposing. She has been pioneering in developing ways of communicating with people we support that help create good outcomes for them as individuals. Helen's nominator commented: “Helen has great listening skills, is very observant and understands how individuals present in different circumstances. She is always professional and helps to guide others in the team. She has an ability to lift people’s mood and bring light on the dark days."
